Captive Breed Dolphin, born in the captivity, is the dolphins born from a parent or a grandparent caught from nature, making the dolphins born in the captivity no intuition to survive in nature. Captive breed dolphin can be decrease number of wild caught dolphin around the world. These dolphins were also trained and lived in conjunction with the trainer since the newborn. It is more familiar with the people than the dolphins are captured from nature. As a result, the captive born dolphin had a stress less than wild captured dolphin.
In addition to the trainer's care, the Dolphins are also closely care by veterinary and there are preventive with blood test (Complete blood count and blood chemistry) to screening test every three months. The blood assessment will tell you the overall conditions of the dolphins and the functions of the body system. Red blood cells and white blood cells count can indicate the illness of infection or illness from the circulatory disorder. If there is any illness from infection or illness from the circulatory system, it will be shown as a result of the complete blood count examination, and also the liver function examination and kidney is an important organ in the body of the animal to work effectively. If the work of these organs decreases or dysfunction the output will be displayed by the blood chemistry, making veterinary measures and seeking a way to maintain or cure the condition. They are immediately considered based on the overall blood information, and it can also indicate the conditions of the animal as well as stress.
Veterinary and trainers must watch each dolphin behavior every day, to assess both the basic health and the most emotional conditions of the dolphins. All dolphins will be visually examined by the attending veterinarian.
For the building. The place is designed in accordance with international standards and animal welfare to make the Dolphins stress-free and undiscomfort. Life support system is designed as appropriate for the life of the dolphin to have a similar condition same as there habitat. With the life support system, the temperature control, salinity, parameters of water, and also the dirt removal system, which can restrict pathogen by chlorine and UV lamp, to prevent infectious diseases in the dolphins.
The food of the Dolphins is a natural-catching fish, when the food is checked. Food will be stored at the temperature -40 degrees Celsius to inhibit the growth of various pathogen, and there is also a randomly detecting of pathogen and residue in food.
However, the captive dolphins must rise according to the welfare of the animals as possible. For animals to live for a long time, no hunger, no stress, the animals are treated properly by veterinary, and it express the most natural behavior and social behavior.
As well many science researches were made concern Dolphins behavior in capture. One of the is research of Applied Animal Behaviour Science group, which shows:
The present study quantified the daily (short-term) and monthly (long-term) behavioural repertoires of three dolphins that participated in Dolphin Interaction Programs with paying guests. Behavioural data were collected over a 6-month period, with Dolphin Interaction Programs occurring daily during the central 4 months. Observations were conducted for 90 min before and 90 min after Dolphin Interaction Programs during the central 4 months, and at corresponding times during the first and last months.
Twelve days of such observations were conducted each month. Statistical analyses were conducted on the data obtained from three Social Behaviour categories (Solitary, Dolphin–Dolphin, and Dolphin–Human) and four Behavioural Event categories (Play, Swimming, Orienting, and Motor Movements).
Results revealed no short-term or long-term changes in the frequencies of Social Behaviours, and no long-term changes in the frequencies of Behavioural Events. However, there was a significant difference in the short-term frequencies of Play behaviours, with Play being more frequent during the Observation Sessions that followed dolphin participation in a Dolphin Interaction Program. The increased levels of Play behaviours following Dolphin Interaction Programs were indicative of robust psychological health. Furthermore, the dolphins continued to voluntarily interact with park visitors, even after interacting with a limited number of guests during Dolphin Interaction Programs.
All this show that capture breed dolphins are in good relationship with people, like to play with them. Now we are talking only about captive breed, not wild animal.
Nemo Dolphins Bay do not support catch of wild dolphins. All our dolphins were born as captive breed animal.
